I am Estefania, a Christian and Bilingual therapist. I love supporting people based on scientific evidence, however I also combined my therapeutic sessions with my faith in Jesus. Science can do the possible, but Jesus can do the IMPOSSIBLE!

- “Veo que esto te está afectando mucho. Si quieres, podemos explorar que estás sintiendo y luego pensar en cosas que te ayuden a sentirte un poco mejor.”

- “Puedes llorar si lo necesitas. Lo que sientes es válido y merece ser expresado. Estoy aquí contigo.”

- “Tus emociones tienen sentido. ¿Qué es lo que más te está pesando en este momento?”

- “Parece que esto sigue dando vueltas en tu mente porque es importante para ti. Podemos hablar de ello a tu ritmo.”

Estas frases demuestran compasión, comprensión y validación, lo que al mismo tiempo trae sanación 🧡

Even though these phrases may sound well-intentioned, they can actually be examples of emotional invalidation. That’s why here are some responses that truly validate and support 👇🏼🫶🏻

“I can see this is affecting you a lot. If you’d like, we can explore what you’re feeling and then think about things that might help you feel a little better.”

“You can cry if you need to. What you feel is valid and deserves to be expressed. I’m here with you.”

“Your emotions make sense. What feels the heaviest for you right now?”

“It seems like this keeps going around in your mind because it’s important to you. We can talk about it at your own pace.”

These phrases show compassion, understanding, and validation — and that naturally creates space for healing 🧡

I admit it’s frustrating and very discouraging to help couples improve their communication while I’m struggling with communication in my own marriage. 😣

And it’s very easy to blame my husband and say that he’s the problem, but I’ve always thought, “If communication is between two people, then I must also be doing something wrong.” 🤔

After spending so much time thinking and analysing our conversations, I finally realised something we were both doing:

We were misinterpreting everything we said to each other, and we never asked for clarification when something hurt us.! 🤯

Our intention was never to cause harm—things were simply being misunderstood.

Through this experience, I learned a few things:👇🏼

- That I’m human too, and I also need professional help to identify patterns that my emotions don’t allow me to see.
- That needing and seeking help doesn’t make me a bad therapist.
- That every relationship works differently, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all model.
- You can read all the books and go to all the marriage or relationship workshops, but if you don’t seek professional help for your specific situation, the process can become much longer and more painful.

It’s not too late to do something for your relationship and don’t make the journey longer or harder than it needs to be. ♥️

La comunicación no es solo hablar; es principalmente escuchar.

Escuchamos para validar las emociones del otro, para entender, para mostrar empatía y para identificar qué áreas necesitan mejorar.

No escuchamos para sacar cosas en cara, “ganar” la discusión, usar la información a nuestro favor o minimizar los sentimientos del otro.

Communication isn’t just about talking; it’s primarily about listening.

We listen to validate the other person’s emotions, to understand, to show empathy, and to identify which areas still need growth.

We do not listen to bring things up later, to “win” the argument, to use information against someone, or to minimise their feelings.

Also known as mental addictive habits, they’re called this way because they involve the same areas of the brain related to addiction — the reward system, which includes pleasure, habits, and motivation.

1. Worry (The Illusion of Control)

Anxious about the future, It makes you feel like you’re “doing something,” or “preventing” from something bad to happen, fatigue, muscle tension, poor sleep, and constant alertness.

2. Emotional Drama

You seek conflict, get involved in chaotic relationships, and hold negative thoughts about others. Drama becomes your normal state, and when there’s calm, you feel empty or bored.

3. Constant Comparison

You spend time on social media comparing your achievements to others. You measure your self-worth based on other people’s standards, leading to low mood, a mix of envy and desire, and chronic dissatisfaction.

4. “Saving” Others

You feel a constant need to help or “fix” others. You see yourself as valuable only when you’re helping, and when you’re not, you feel worthless. This leads to emotional exhaustion, a loss of identity, and resentment toward others for not giving back the same way.

How to Work on These Mental Addictive Habits?❗️

👉🏼Recognise the pattern:
Ask yourself: When did it start? What emotions are you trying to soothe or avoid? What would happen if you stopped doing it? The goal is to uncover the repeating pattern.

👉🏼Identify automatic thoughts and core beliefs:
Replace them with more realistic and compassionate alternatives.

👉🏼Find alternative behaviors:
Gradually reduce the habit and replace it with healthier actions.

👉🏼Learn to tolerate discomfort:
Support yourself with grounding techniques and mindful breathing.
